as ... as possible, as ... as sb can
这两个短语的意思都是“尽可能地”“尽力地”。前者的语气比后者更有礼貌。例如:
He sat as far away from the others as possible./He sat as far away from the others as he could.他尽可能地和其他人坐得远一些。
possible, likely, probable
这三个词均表示“可能”。
1.probable常指有较大的可能性,表示客观上潜在的可能性,较有根据和充分理由而值得相信的事,意味着经过权衡正反两方面的理由后而相信的事大概会发生的,常译作“很可能”。
2.possible指有可能小,但强调客观上有可能性,且常有可能性较小的暗示。
3.likely作形容词时意为“很可能,大概,也许”,侧重表示从表面迹象看来某人有可能做某事或某事有可能发生。
