apartment, dormitory, flat, room
这组词都可表示“一套房间”。它们的区别在于:
1.flat指比较简朴的住宅,通常占有不大或不很讲究的楼内某一层,多用于英式英语中。
2.apartment通常指单房,复数形式时指套房,也可指私人房或出租房,有无设备都可,多用在美式英语中。有时也可称作condominium或condo。例如:

lodging常用lodgings,指临时租借的房间或宿舍。
accommodation泛指各种居住住所，一般指暂时下榻之地。
apartment通常指占用或居住时间较长的成套房间，在美国比较常用。
flat多用于英国、澳大利亚和新西兰，指同一层建筑物上组成一个居住单元的几个房间。
quarters指某一部分人集中的居住区。
suite可泛指任何设备完善的一套房间，但多指包括起居室、卧室和浴室的陈设较豪华的套间。
